Funny though because i’m a lawyer! I’m an assistant professor and study philosophy and sociology of law in Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Law.<\/p>\n My father and grandfather are both excellent craftsmen on metal work. So i grew up by watching and sometimes working with them. I saw how my father built some very difficult machines with very limited tools. He always comes up with very simple but efficent solutions to difficult problems on work. They both are tough guys; not easy to work together.<\/p>\n I started playing guitar and ba\u011flama (the most widely known and played Turkish folk instrument) while i was 14 years old. I didn’t go to any music course or school but i learned a lot from my music teacher in my high school. After discovering Erkan O\u011fur, legendary Turkish musician, i started searching after his music and instruments. He invented fretless guitar in 1976. He designed some new instruments like 6 and 9 Strings O\u011fur Saz\u0131, kopuz (old instrument but new tunning and playing style), e-bow on fretless electric guitar. He is not only\u00a0coming from deep roots of the tradition but also renewing it. Generations after him most probably take his approach as tradition. You can compare him only with Tanburi Cemil Bey who known as the greatest Turkish musician of 20th century.<\/p>\n Anyways, thats another story. But i wanted to play like him which i never achived \ud83d\ude42 I started to make some changes on my guitars and baglamas. While i was in university, i was frequently visiting some workshops. I learned some basic techniques there. In 2010 i opened up my littleworkshop. It’s not a place to make money or make my living. I’m still teaching in university but workshop became a quite large part of my life. I opened up this place to spend some time to build instruments i want but i cannot afford. But by time i made quite a few instruments. Some of them are in the hands of very talented musicians now.<\/p>\n This blog was started only in Turkish but i realised there are a lot of people interested in Turkish music and instruments. And there isn’t much information out there online. I want to write all my posts both in Turkish and English.
